5 Marketing Tips for StartUps

Written by Paul Henderson – Content Strategist and Social Video Marketer

Marketing for startups is a little different than for established companies for obvious reasons such as startups having fewer funds and usually less experience and personnel.

However, there are a lot of quick. simple and effective tactics to leverage your digital marketing efforts. Here are 5 simple tips that work:

Be Social

Fish, where the fish are, is an old marketing truism. On social media, it’s important to use the right bait. Platforms like Linkedin and Twitter are better for a B2B marketing plan, but Facebook and Instagram are better for B2C marketing. Join groups that are relevant to your business on Facebook and other relevant social media platforms where your customers and potential customers are. [ How to Get Seen and Shared on Social Media..]

Information not Promotion

Your product/ service is great in your eyes because you live and breathe it. That can easily translate into a false idea that everyone else is just waiting to hear about it. Spoiler alert, they aren’t. Push advertising is a waste of money in general and more so for a startup. Give people information, tips etc that are useful to them. Use strong visuals in images, photos and video. If it’s watchable it will get watched, if it’s readable it will get read and perhaps most importantly good content gets shared!

Make Friends and Influence People

A quick and inexpensive way to get an audience that would be interested in your product is to leverage the followers of others in your business. So for example, if you a personal trainer pair up with organic food stores, sports shops etc to share content. A cheese seller could offer advice on wine pairings- available at Acme Wine Shop- and ask them to share your content. Instant audience!

Start a blog

Starting a blog is easy and is an easy and quick way to get your message out. It’s also a way to get on the search engines and get your content shared on other people’s social media accounts. You can repurpose the most popular articles as videos, infographics and social media posts. [ A Beginners Guide to Blogging for Business..]

Use Video

More than 75% of all content viewed online today is video and it’s increasing year on year. In general, video gets higher engagement than photos, text or any other form of content. Don’t worry about production values too much at first, remember that content is king and a half decent smartphone is all you need to start filming. [ 5 Reasons Why Your Business Needs Video…]
